The Advanced Master Artisan trip to France in 2004
Fifteen Advanced Master Applicators went to the town of Montpelier,
France in 2004 to restore the beautiful chapel L'Eglissette, a 14th
century treasure. The chapel received a base coat of yellow ochre tinted
course grade marmorino followed by a finish grade of white fine grade
marmorino leaving areas of ochre peaking through to give the new plaster
an aged look. Artwork of the story of Saint John the Baptist were
transferred to the walls and painted by the fifteen applicators.
The Master Applicators participated in workshops in Pompeii Fresco
(using egg base with pigments), Grotesques (replication of a primitive
style of cave painting) and Grissaille, a style of painting using only
gray tints.
